How to keep your skin healthy during fall and winter

Winter is coming…so it’s time for a skincare switch up

You should treat yourself to some new cold-weather-friendly products now that winter is just around the corner because a fresh skincare routine is required. While summer skincare should concentrate on preventing excess oil production and providing additional sun protection, fall and winter skincare should place a higher priority on hydration, particularly for people who are prone to dry skin.

Here are some tips for keeping your skin looking and feeling young and healthy over the winter:

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Did we mention hydrate? Before you click ‘add to cart’, make sure your new skincare products contain hydrating properties and ingredients that can help boost your skin’s moisture. The cold weather can quickly dry out your skin during the winter, so prioritizing hydration is essential. Even if you’re an oily skin type, sometimes the harsh breeze can still affect your skin’s overall health. Pick products that will help retain your skin’s natural moisture, such as our Hydrating Facial Cleanser (which can be used on oily, combo, and dry skin).

Switch out light moisturizers for a richer formula

While a gel-based moisturizer may have been effective throughout the summer, your skin may require additional protection during the winter to prevent dryness. Replace your lightweight moisturizer with a thicker, cream-based alternative. Keep an eye out for lotions with hydrating components like Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, and Coconut oil when shopping for new face or body lotions. Our recently released Aloe Coconut Body Lotion has all three. Look for lotions that are non-comedogenic or even oil-free if you have oily skin and are prone to breakouts.

Avoid cleansers and moisturizers with drying ingredients

For the winter, substitute a milder mix for cleansers and moisturizers that contain active chemicals like Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, or Vitamin C. If you reside in a region with a cooler environment, the possibility of skin drying out from active chemicals can be a real headache. But even if you have skin problems like redness, acne, or acne scarring, you can still employ active substances to take care of your skin. Apply a different treatment to the troubled areas after cleansing gently, then moisturize heavily thereafter.

Keep wearing your SPF

SPF is your all-year, ride-or-die skincare bestie, not simply a summer affair. Every doctor and professional skincare expert will agree that an SPF 30 should still be a part of your winter skincare routine. It’s crucial to ensure your skin is adequately protected from UVA rays even though the sun may not be as fierce. Additionally, even if you live in a region with frequent snowfall, sunburn can still result from the sun’s rays reflecting off the white snow.

Just because your summer vacay is ending doesn’t mean there isn’t a reason to be excited for fall and winter, especially if you’re a skincare junkie (like us…). Fall is a great transitional period to update your skincare routine to ensure your complexion is ready for the harsh winter air, so why not get ahead?
